San Diego has some fantastic options for those that think the world looks better from the seat of a bike. From the avid mountain biker to someone just wanting to cruise along the beach, San Diego has it all. Here are three fun places to get out and get the wheels turning.
Mission Trail Regional Park
Mission Trail Regional Park is 12 miles from downtown San Diego and has 5,800 acres of terrain to satisfy all levels of mountain bikers. The park is always a wonderful place to visit and take a ride but it is especially beautiful in the spring when the wildflowers are out. Mission Trail Regional Park is open every day, with a helpful visitor’s center open from 9-5 daily.
Pacific Coast Highway
Road cyclists in San Diego love to ride the Pacific Coast Highway. The PCH traverses the San Diego coastline and passes through the picturesque beach towns of Del Mar and Encinitas. Cyclists enjoy the combination of long flats, challenging hills, and the jaw-dropping views that await them after every curve.
Ocean Beach Bike Path
Those that are looking for just a nice mellow cruise down to the beach usually go for this ride. The Ocean Beach Bike Path ends in Ocean Beach and is an easy traverse of the San Diego River suitable for all skill levels. Start your ride a bit later in the day and grab a bite to eat at one of the great little eateries you’ll discover along Abbott Street, and then head to the Ocean Beach Pier to take in the sunset. If you are lucky you might see the dolphins and a few surfers playing in the waves.
