The Tenth Avenue Arts Center is a gem of San Diego’s East Village. Hosting artists from all over the globe, the Tenth Avenue Arts Center functions as a Mecca for the culturally attuned. The Arts Center has been a thriving part of the East Village for a decade and has offered up everything from avant-garde stage shows to stunning art exhibits. The 1928 Art Deco building is a unique space with a unique vision to match. And this August, the Tenth Avenue Arts Center takes on the San Diego Underground Film Festival.

The San Diego Underground Film Festival provides a showcase for experimental filmmakers, outsider narratives, and artists using 16 mm film. From August 24th to the 27th, the Arts Center will be transformed to accommodate three screening spaces for the film festival. Even the rooftop lounge will feature performances and viewing opportunities. Buying a festival pass will allow you to partake in all the days of entertainment, but if you aren’t quite that committed, take a look at the lineup and buy tickets to screen individual films.

If you can only fit one performance into your schedule, check out San Diego native artist and drummer, Nick Lesley, on Saturday the 26th as he performs Zardumz. Bound to be an exciting show, Lesley will collaborate with his drum kit in an improvisational score of visual elements.

The East Village is home to an array of unique cultural opportunities.
